Pumpkin Pie Wars (2016)

Directed by Steven R. Monroe

Written by Nina Weinman

Ten years ago, Faye and Lydia each opened their own bakeries in Emeryville, Ohio, after a personal and professional fall-out during a local Pumpkin Pie contest. Now their children, and co-workers, Casey and Sam, are set to carry on the rivalry as they go head-to-head in the same contest. There’s only one problem for these two people who are supposed to hate each other, they start to fall in love. Starring Julie Gonzalo (“Dallas”) and Eric Aragon (“The Perfect Wedding”).

This movie gives all the pumpkin feels. It opens with a field of pumpkins. There are pumpkin scones, pumpkin moon pies, pumpkin breads, and of course pumpkin pies! There’s also a family feud that is exaggerated to fun effect. The second generation, Casey and Sam, care a lot about their mothers, but they have no interest in carrying old grudges and soon learn to appreciate each other’s strengths as friendship and romance blossom. I loved that Casey was an Excel wiz and had a head for numbers. Their fathers are meanwhile keeping up a secret friendship as well. It all comes to a head where Casey and Sam need both mother’s help to come together against a pumpkin pie saboteur!

Favorite Quote: Was it that obvious?
If sharing a steamy glance across a pumpkin table is obvious, then yes it was.

Favorite Kiss: When Sam and Casey are just getting to know each other, there’s a classic she trips and he catches her moment where they see each other in a new light.
