The Mistletoe Promise (2016)

Directed By David Winning

Written By Michael Nourse

A chance meeting between two strangers who share a disdain for Christmas results in The Mistletoe Promise, a pact to help them navigate their holiday complications – together. But as they spend more time with each other and experience the magic of Christmas the phony couple discovers there may be more to their contract than business. Based on the bestselling novel by Richard Paul Evans. Starring Jaime King and Luke MacFarlane.

The first Christmas movie I’ve seen about trauma bonding, Elise and Nick connect over past hurts that have left them Christmas-phobic (not scared of, but wary of the joyful season). I would have loved their relationship even if it hadn’t turned romantic, as they both learn to open up and be as generous to themselves as they are to each other. They are good people who deserve to find pleasure again in simple things like decorating a Christmas tree. In the end, they recognize this value in themselves and the healing can begin. When I tell you this movie makes me cry🥹 but it makes me laugh too. The meet cute is over aggressive caroling in the mall food court and Lochlan Munro puts his all into being the slimy ex.

Favorite Quote: I don’t agree with the premise or the policy that families and marriage are the only way to promote goodness in this world. Virtue and dignity comes from all aspects of life.

Favorite Kiss: The scene where she tells her best friend that it’s time to move on and let her ex have the company, I just loved the friendships in this movie!
